Poker positions in 6-max
Position is who has to act first. At a six-handed cash table the seats, from first to last before the flop, are UTG, HJ, CO, BTN, SB and BB.
Find the button
The dealer button marks the button. The small blind sits to its left and posts 0.5bb. The big blind sits one more seat left and posts 1bb. Before the flop, the first player to act is UTG, the seat after the big blind. After the flop, the first player to act is the small blind.
Why the seat changes the chart
The earlier you speak, the more players can still have a hand behind you. UTG opens about 14.2% of combinations on this study chart. HJ opens about 23.4%. CO opens about 36.7%. The button opens about 44.8%, because only the blinds are left and you will have position if one of them calls. The small blind opens less than the button, about 27.3%, because you will play the rest of the hand out of position. The big blind does not open. If it folds to you there, the hand is over.
Use the position table to pin a seat, then open that seat's chart. These ranges are a study baseline for 100bb 6-max cash, written for this site. They are not a solver printout.
