Pot odds and outs

Pot odds are the price of a call. Outs are the cards that improve your hand. You do not need a solver to compare the two. You need the size of the pot, the size of the call, and a count of the cards that help you.

The price

Equity you need is the call divided by the pot after you call: call / (pot + call). On this site the price table uses that sum. A bet of one third of the pot asks for about 20%. Half the pot asks for 25%. Two thirds asks for about 29%. A pot-sized bet asks for 33%. Twice the pot asks for 40%.

Outs on the flop and the turn

On the flop, two cards are still to come. With a live deck of 47 unknown cards, the exact chance of hitting at least one out is 1 minus the chance of missing both: 1 − ((47 − outs) / 47) × ((46 − outs) / 46). On the turn, one card remains, so the chance is outs / 46. The rule of 4 on the flop and the rule of 2 on the turn is the same idea, rounded, and capped at 100%.

If your equity from the outs is at least the price of the call, the call has the right price. If it is short, the call does not. This ignores implied odds and the times you hit and still lose. It is the public arithmetic, not a solver equity.

Use the pot odds calculator and change the pot, the call and the outs. The chart pages stay an open-or-fold study. They do not print a postflop solve.
